What it is
A two-part circuit breaker finder for domestic and light commercial boards. The transmitter plugs into the outlet you are working on; the receiver sweeps the breaker panel and tells you which one feeds it, with a light and a tone rather than a reading you have to interpret. The transmitter doubles as a GFCI outlet tester, so the same trip that identifies the circuit also shows you the wiring condition — open ground, open neutral, reversed hot and neutral, and the rest. Three adapters come with it: a light socket adapter for lighting circuits, a three-prong to two-prong grounding adapter for older outlets, and an alligator clip adapter for bare wires. Everything packs into the zipped case, so the kit stays together between jobs. It works on 90–120V AC circuits and is rated CAT II 120V.
On the job
Plug the transmitter into the outlet, take the receiver to the panel and sweep it. The receiver signals on the breaker carrying the circuit, so you flip the right one instead of working through the board with the lights going on and off behind you.
The transmitter is a GFCI tester in its own right. The indicator codes on its face cover open ground, open neutral, open hot, reversed hot and ground, reversed hot and neutral, and correct wiring — so a fault in the outlet shows up before you start pulling the circuit apart.
The light socket adapter takes the transmitter onto a lighting circuit, the grounding adapter handles two-prong outlets, and the alligator clips let you work on bare conductors. The zipped case has a place for each of them, which is the difference between a kit and a drawer.

Bought it for the breaker finding, but the outlet tester on the transmitter gets used on every job. Being able to read the wiring condition off the same tool means one less thing in the pouch.

Does what it says on 90–120V circuits and the case is genuinely useful. What caught me out is that it is a 120V tool — check that against what you are working on before you order, because I assumed otherwise and had to plan around it. Accuracy has been fine on the panels I have used it on, though on a very full board I had to sweep twice to be sure.
